The Book of the Month November 2022 selections are here! Decide which of the five books you want to add to your subscription box.
Book of the Month is my favorite subscription box. Every month, I choose between their curated book selections, and voila! A blue box arrives at my door carrying one (or two or three) new books for me to read.
Except for a curve ball they threw in March.
Instead of five books, Book of the Month says it will vary its selection count. I guess they want to keep us on our toes.
Still, every month, I will highlight the books chosen and let you know my thoughts on the chosen titles.
Even if you don’t have a Book of the Month subscription (yet), I think you’ll find value in looking at a curated list of new releases.
Keep scrolling to see all the details about the Book of the Month November 2022 selections and to find out which one I’m adding to my subscription box.
What is Book of the Month?
Book of the Month is a monthly subscription book service highly popular among the book community. Trust me, once you try it, you’ll be hooked.
How it Works
Each month, a panel of judges chooses five books for you to choose from. The Book of the Month selections cover different genres and are always special edition hardcovers. Often, the chosen books haven’t been published yet, so you get to be one of the first people to read them.
At the beginning of the month, you choose one book to add to your box and shortly thereafter the little blue box arrives at your door. If you aren’t loving any of the selected books, you just skip that month and your credits will just roll over to the next month. Or, after your third box, you can choose from five member favorite books for your month’s selection instead.
On the other hand, if you want more than one book, once you’ve chosen your initial book, you can add-on up to two additional books at a discounted rate. These add-ons can be from the current month’s selection, be favorites from previous months, or be new releases specially included in the add-on catalog.
Pricing
Book of the Month runs two different pricing plans. On the monthly plan, you get one credit a month for $17. If you are willing to pay upfront, the yearly plan gives you 12 credits for $168, which averages out to $14 a book. For a hardcover new release, both prices are a steal.
Even better, when you include additional books into your box, they are only $10 each!
Book of the Month also offers 3, 6, and 9-month gift cards if you are considering purchasing it as a gift.
For new subscribers, Book of the Month’s homepage almost always has a special offer to get your first book for $10. But I can do you one better. If you are interested in joining, you can use this Book of the Month Club referral link to get your first book for $5 right now!
Bonus Features
But wait, there’s more. Once you’ve chosen your 12th book from Book of the Month, you join the BFF club and get a special Book of the Month tote.
After that, you’ll get a free add-on every year for your birthday month. Plus, when the end of the year rolls around, you get one of the top 5 Book of the Month selections from the year for free. That’s an additional two books each year for no additional cost.
What are you waiting for? Join Book of the Month and get your first book at a discounted price!
November 2022 Book of the Month Selections
We are the Light
Matthew Quick
After a recent tragedy, everyone in a small Pennsylvania town sees Lucas Goodgame as a hero, except Lucas. Visited every night in his dreams by his wife, the widower Lucas struggles to find meaning in his life until a grieving teenager begins camping in Lucas’ backyard. As an unlikely alliance takes place, Lucas’ act of kindness magically transforms the entire town.
The Wilderwomen
Ruth Emmie Lang
Five years ago, Nora Wilder disappeared leaving behind her two daughters, Zadie and Finn. Even though she’s a psychic, Zadie didn’t foresee her mother’s disappearance. When Finn seizes an echo of a memory of Nora, she believes their mother is still alive and convinces her estranged sister to accompany her on a journey into their mother’s past. But as Finn starts losing herself in Nora’s memories, Zadie must decide where to draw the line or risk losing them both. With subtle magical realism and a meandering storyline, I was less than impressed with Lang’s November release.
The Last Party
Clare Mackintosh
During the New Year’s Day polar swim, the body of wealthy real estate developer Rhys Lloyd washes up in a small Welsh town. After an awkward one-night stand together, local detective Ffion Morgan must work with English detective Leo Brady to discover how killed Rhys. But the more they discover about Lloyd’s life, the more they realize that almost everyone has a reason to want him dead. I loved the setting, but as a whole, The Last Party ended up being an underwhelming boilerplate mystery with glacially slow pacing and a murder victim who turned out to be too evil, the absolute scum of the earth.
White Horse
Erika T. Wurth
Kari James is an urban Native who loves heavy metal, Stephen King and hanging out at her local dive bar, White Horse. When Kari’s cousin Debby gives her a bracelet that belonged to Kari’s mother, Kari finds herself haunted by nightmares of her mother and a monstrous creature. Now for the first time, Kari begins to look for the truth to why her mother left when she was two, and finds that her family and the local cops are hiding big secrets.
Someday, Maybe
Onyi Nwabineli
On New Year’s Eve, Eve’s husband Q dies by suicide. While you learn more about Eve and Q’s relationship, Nwabineli’s debut novel focuses on Eve’s complicated emotions after her husband’s death. From shock to anger to depression, Eve navigates her grief with the help of her Nigerian family and a group of loyal friends in this powerful story.
Not Feeling the November Books?
Sometimes, it happens. If none of the five November 2022 Book of the Month selections are calling your name, don’t despair. After your third box, you now have another option!
Previously, if you didn’t love the five choices, you would have to skip the whole month. Now, you can choose a member fave for your monthly box and then add-on up to two more books if you choose.

November’s New Add-Ons
Recently, Book of the Month has started including a few extra releases on top of their five monthly selections. Once you have picked your main selection, you can choose to add-on one of these new books (or any past release) to your box.
November’s New Books:

My November Picks
First off, you should know that I’ve already read The Wilderwomen and The Last Party, and I was less than impressed with either one.
I really debated on picking Someday, Maybe. The book sounds amazingly powerful but highly emotional. I really want to read it, so I nabbed a copy. However, I think I’m going to have to make sure I’m in the right frame of mind before I start.
Apparently I’m in the mood for heavier books this month, because to fill out my box, I skipped the lighter mysteries and romances. Looking through my backlist, I decided to pick up Mohsin Hamid’s Exit West, a kind of literary science fiction about two lovers in a wartorn country trying to find a magical portal to escape.
Lastly, I picked up Beyond the Point by Claire Gibson, the fictional tale of three women who attend West Point Academy. It’s been on my to-read list for a few years, and so I think now’s the time to try it out.

I vacillated between Someday Maybe and White Horse. I’m really, really not a horror fan, but something about White Horse appealed to me. I’ll have to see. And I’m curious to learn how other readers like Someday Maybe.

For some reason this makes me laugh, because these books are SO different. Since Someday, Maybe was the GMA Book Club pick, I think I lot of people will be reading and leaving reviews for you to see how much you’ll like it.
