About Edith Wharton
Edith Newbold Jones was born into wealth and privilege in New York City in 1862. Her marriage to Edward Wharton of a similar situation and wealth was not happy and many of her writings reflect this in bleak and unhappy marriages. She eventually divorced and spent much of the rest of her life in France where she died in 1937.
