Wondering what to read now? If you’re looking for book suggestions, look no further! Here are all the hot new February 2019 book releases for you. I’ll let you know what I’ve read, what I can’t wait to read, and what’s getting all the attention this month.
Wow, it seems like forever since we’ve posted! February sure took a lot out of me. Between being sick most of the month, having sick kids, family obligations and just life, it’s been a crazy month.
However, I wanted to squeeze in one more book list into February. I simply could not let the month pass without writing about the new fiction releases.
This month, there are so many intriguing new book releases that came out. I just feel like a kid in a candy store; I want all of them.
Of course, I can’t have them all. I am not of unlimited resources. I was lucky enough to get my hands on two of February’s new fiction releases this month. As for the rest of the new fiction books? They are currently sitting on my library hold list.
Hopefully, you see something you like. If not, I can promise you that March’s new fiction releases are outstanding, so you don’t have long to wait.
February 2019 Book Releases I’ve Already Read
On the Come Up
Angie Thomas
After hitting it big with her debut novel, The Hate U Give, Angie Thomas returns with an homage to hip hop. In On the Come Up, 16-year-old Bri wants to become a famous rapper – more so now than ever as she watches her mom struggle to pay the bills. Although not quite as strong as The Hate U Give, Thomas pens another bestseller speaking about what it’s like to be a black teenager in America.
The Night Olivia Fell
Christina McDonald
It’s every mother’s worst nightmare – the middle of the night phone call saying there’s been an accident. Abi Knight rushes to the hospital to find her teenage daughter Olivia has fallen from a local bridge and is not only brain-dead but also pregnant. Determined to find out what happened to Olivia, Abi must delve into the secrets and lies of Olivia’s life. I found this thriller to be a quick fun read. While the book wasn’t terribly suspenseful and the ending itself was not particularly clever, I rather enjoyed reading the mother-daughter dynamic of the story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Gallery Books through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Book of the Month – February 2019 Book Releases
I just joined The Book of the Month Club this year, and I’m so excited to start getting books every month. Here’s how it works – each month, they pick 5 books and you get to choose one book. If you want to add any extra books, then you get them at a discounted price. Each month is usually a mix of new releases and advance copies of unreleased books.

The Silent Patient
Alex Michaelides
Among the Book of the Month Club’s January picks was Alex Michaelides’ debut novel, The Silent Patient. One night, famous painter Alicia Berenson shoots her husband, an equally well-known fashion photographer, in the face 5 times, and then never utters another word again. Now criminal psychotherapist Theo Faber is determined to get the truth from this silent patient. With rave reviews coming through, I can’t wait to give this psychological thriller a try.
The Night Tiger
Yangsze Choo
I want to highlight one more Book of the Month pick from January to give you a taste of how varied their choices are each month. Eleven-year-old Ren is given one final task when his master dies: to find his master’s severed finger and return it, in the next 49 days, or his master’s soul will be doomed to wander the earth. From there, his story will mingle with dance hall girl Ji Lin who has found the finger, all while a tiger stalks the town. Mixing Chinese folklore and superstition with historical fiction, Choo’s novel looks to be a beautifully written and imaginative story.
February 2019 Book Releases on My To-Read List
American Pop
Snowden Wright
Prepare yourself for a family saga of the fictional Forsters – a Southern dynasty akin to the Rockefellers. For the founding father, we have Houghton Forster, a son of immigrants who marries into the aristocratic class of the South and founds Panola Cola Company. But with his rise to control of a soft drink empire comes added pressure on his children to become successful. Touching on wealth, culture and how both affect a family, Wright’s latest novel sounds deliciously fun.
The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls
Anissa Gray
In her debut novel, Anissa Gray tells the story of the three Butler sisters – Althea, Viola, and Lillian. They’ve had their share of hard times, but the hardest is yet to come. When Althea and her husband are arrested, Viola and Lillian must step up to take care of her teenage daughters. I’ve heard a lot of buzz around this book, so, hopefully, I can get my hands on a copy.
The Lost Man
Jane Harper
I’ve heard great things about Jane Harper’s novel The Dry, so when I saw her name among the list of new fiction releases, I knew I had to mention her. Set in the outback of Australia, Nathan and Bub find the body of their brother Cameron on the edge of their ranch. Did Cam end his own life or did someone end it for him? More a character study than a murder mystery, The Lost Man looks to be one of the most anticipated new book releases this month.
Rayne & Delilah’s Midnite Matinee
Jeff Zentner
I have to say, when scrolling through the list of new fiction releases, I completely overlooked Jeff Zentner’s latest. The title and cover alone are not my style. However, I have read both of Zentner’s previous young adult books this year and have loved them both. In his latest book release, high school seniors and best friends Delia and Josie are the hosts of the local cable show Midnite Matinee. Zentner does an excellent job of navigating the emotions of young adults approaching adulthood, so I’m excited to read his newest book.
Intriguing New Fiction Books
The Priory of the Orange Tree
Samantha Shannon
I will readily admit that adult fantasy is not usually my thing, but if I’m going to cover new fiction releases, I need to expand my horizons. I’ve been seeing this book everywhere, so I knew I had to mention this new book release. From the author of The Bone Season, we have Samantha Shannon’s latest high fantasy novel. With its diverse and feminist approach, The Priory of the Orange Tree tells the story of a queen in need of an heir, a lady-in-waiting secretly using magic to protect her. At 800+ pages, it will fulfill any fantasy lover’s wish for more world-building.
The Girls at 17 Swann Street
Yara Zgheib
Yara Zgheib hits the emotions hard in her debut novel. Professional dancer Anna Roux is plagued with uncertainties. In an attempt to take control, she starts controlling her eating and eventually weighs only 88 pounds. Admitted to a treatment facility for her anorexia, Anna meets other brave women fighting their own battles with eating disorders. Reviews of the novel mention the raw emotion and the power of the story, so I’m intrigued to see how it reads.
The Huntress
Kate Quinn
Each month among the new fiction releases, I always find myself drawn to a few WWII historical fiction novels. At the top of my list this month is the latest book from Kate Quinn, the bestselling author of The Alice Network. Former war correspondent Ian Graham has become disillusioned from journalism and instead has decided to take up hunting for a notorious Nazi war criminal – The Huntress. Along the way, he teams up with the sole witness – Nina Markova, a former Russian pilot – to find the Huntress hiding in America. If her newest book is anything like the last, The Huntress will be one not to miss.
We Must Be Brave
Frances Liardet
Let me squeeze in one more WWII historical fiction into my list of new fiction releases – a tale more about love than war. During an evacuation in England, Ellen Parr finds a small child named Pamela all alone. Taking her in, Ellen realizes what it is to be a mother – until Pamela’s father arrives to take her back. Spanning both Ellen’s childhood and the post-war years, We Must Be Brave is a sweeping novel about the power of love.
