I will admit that I will never read Fifty Shades of Grey, and I am by no means recommending it. However, it had such an influence on the book world that I felt I couldn't leave it off the list. Also, it's why my list is the top books and not the best books.

Great list! I read quite a few of the books on here :) I remember crying a lot while reading The Fault in Our Stars. For Fifty Shades of Grey, I remember disliking the novel. I just couldn't get past the crappy writing. I did quite enjoy the movies though.

In reply to <a href="https://www.booklistqueen.com/top-books-of-the-decade/#comment-875">Rob</a>.

I did read The Nickel Boys and to me, it was good, but didn't thematically reflect the 2010s - specifically Black Lives Matter - the way that The Hate U Give does. I haven't read The Underground Railroad yet (though I really need to) and I expect it would likely fit extremely well into this list.

Obviously, the list is subjective, like every other list on my site. I will point out that this is a list of the "top books" of the decade, not the "best books." Because we all know that 50 Shades of Grey falls under the former and not the latter.

Just wondering if you've read any Colson Whitehead? He's written 3 books in the last decade that could have made your list -- 2 of them being Pulitzer Prize winners. I guess having read both Angie Thomas' "The Hate U Give" and Whitehead's "Nickel Boys," I find it difficult to believe that anyone would find the former to be the better book of the two. That's just an opinion, but what I'm really asking is, why no Whitehead on your list?
