Book of the Month is my favorite subscription box. Every month, I choose between their curated book selections, and voila! A blue box arrives at my door carrying one (or two or three) new books for me to read.
Each month, Book of the Month chooses between five and seven hardcover books you can choose from. Rather listen to an audiobook? Book of the Month has those, too! Now you can opt for audiobooks as your monthly pick or add them on at any time during the month.
Every month, I will highlight the books chosen and let you know my thoughts on the chosen titles.

What is Book of the Month?
Book of the Month is a monthly subscription book service highly popular among the book community. Trust me, once you try it, you’ll be hooked.
How it Works
Each month, a panel of judges chooses at least five books for you to choose from. The Book of the Month selections cover different genres and are always special edition hardcovers. Often, the chosen books haven’t been published yet, so you get to be one of the first people to read them.
At the beginning of the month, you choose one book to add to your box and shortly thereafter the little blue box arrives at your door. If you aren’t loving any of the selected books, you just skip that month and your credits will just roll over to the next month. Or, after your third box, you can choose from five member favorite books for your month’s selection instead.
On the other hand, if you want more than one book, once you’ve chosen your initial book, you can add-on up to four additional books at a discounted rate. These add-ons can be from the current month’s selection, be favorites from previous months, or be new releases specially included in the add-on catalog.
Pricing
Book of the Month runs two different pricing plans. On the monthly plan, you get one credit a month for $17. If you are willing to pay upfront, the yearly plan gives you 12 credits for $168, which averages out to $14 a book. For a hardcover new release, both prices are a steal.
Even better, when you include additional books into your box, they are only $10 each!
Book of the Month also offers 3, 6, and 9-month gift cards if you are considering purchasing it as a gift.

Sometimes, it happens. If none of the July 2024 Book of the Month selections are calling your name, don’t despair. After your third box, you now have another option!
Previously, if you didn’t love the five choices, you would have to skip the whole month. Now if you have BFF status, you can choose a member fave hardcover for your monthly box and then add-on up to four more books if you choose.

My July 2024 Picks
Apparently thrillers are calling my name this month because I couldn’t resist putting three into my box. Admittedly, I would have snatched up The Lost Story by Meg Shaffer if I didn’t already have a copy on my Kindle.
I started with Liz Moore’s The God of the Woods which is more literary than my other selections. I adored Moore’s Long Bright River and am excited to see if she can weave as powerful of a slow-burn mystery as she did last time.
Summer reading doesn’t ever seem complete without the latest Riley Sager thriller. I actually haven’t loved his last two thrillers (The Only One Left and The House Across the Lake) so I’m curious to see what I think about the newest one.
To round out my box, I added House of Glass by Sarah Pekkannen. I’ve enjoyed the psychological thrillers Pekkanen has penned with Greer Hendricks (The Golden Couple, The Wife Between Us). It’ll be interesting to see if that same energy holds up in a book Pekkanen has written on her own.

I am so tempted to rejoin BOTM. I have an offer for $4.99. I love the new cover colors! I just cannot justify spending the money now, because I can get the books at my local library. I originally joined in 2020. We all know what happened then. I got the book Valentine, by Elizabeth Wetmore. Give it a read, if you haven’t already. It deserved more love and I felt it did not get it because of the pandemic. It will always hold a special place in my heart (see what I have done here!!) because I was so desperate for books when the libraries closed and I found myself away from home when the pandemic hit. I joined BOTM for that reason and their great rate! I tracked the book as it made a very circuitous route to get to me. I remember when my box came I let it sit in the sun for a bit (not kidding, I was that scared of Covid) and then absolutely devoured the book. I still follow BOTM to see what the monthly choices are. But I cancelled my membership after attaining BFF status. I got a cute pair of socks and a tote & always loved the cute bookmarks. I had no issues and enjoyed the club. I only stopped bc the libraries reopened! I would choose The God Of The Woods this month if I were still a member. I just counted and I have almost 30 BOTM books.
